- I don't have a Master's degree. Can I still take these courses?
A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required in order to enroll in the courses. Courses are taught and evaluated at the master's level. If you wish to apply the courses towards AAMFT Clinical Membership, you must have a master´s degree or be in the process of completing it. Courses taken prior to master's enrolment are not considered by AAMFT.
- I want to be a sex therapist. What do I need to do?
Consider registering for the two courses occurring during
the Annual Guelph Sexuality Conference:
a) Sex Therapy Training: This program is designed to provide practicing clinicians with the knowledge and skills necessary to assess and treat the sexual concerns and complaints of individuals and couples. This is a five (5) day training program for professionals wishing to provide counseling, therapy or research in the field
b) Sexual Attitudes Reassessment: The objective of the SAR weekend is to give participants an opportunity to assess their beliefs, attitudes and values regarding aspects of human sexuality. This two (2) day course is an opportunity to expand your ideas about sexuality and sexual expression.
c) Attend the Annual Guelph Sexuality Conference for current information about programs, services, and the latest research from the experts. Have the opportunity to network with peers and attend full and half day workshops and concurrent sessions. The Conference is a source of on-going training in human sexuality and sex therapy. d) Visit BESTCO, the Board of Examiners for Sex Therapists and Counsellors of Ontario for information.
e) Visit ASSECT, the American Association for Sex Educators, Counsellors and Therapists.
- How do I know if courses I have already taken will count towards AAMFT Clinical Membership?
